Before starting the personalising procedure, prepare two vessels that are sufficiently large to contain ProtexsmileŽ, one containing hot water and the other cold water. The hot water should be at boiling point.
Follow the steps described below carefully in order to personalise your ProtexsmileŽcorrectly.
- Hold the VDC SystemŽ device pointing downwards.
- Insert the VDC SystemŽ into the mouthguard (FIG. A) starting from one of the two lateral holes. Once the first element is inserted, pull the arch of the VDC SystemŽ so that the three inserts fit into their respective lodgings at the front of the ProtexsmileŽ. Once all the occlusal stops are inserted proceed to step 3.
- After checking that the VDC SystemŽ is well inserted, try placing the mouthguard in your mouth in order to gain confidence for the following steps (FIG. C).
- Hold the tip of the VDC SystemŽ and dip the ProtexsmileŽ completely into boiling water for 15 seconds (FIG. B). Warning: Do not exceed this amount of time or the mouthguard may be irremediably deformed.
- Remove the ProtexsmileŽ from the water and shake it briskly to remove any excess water.
- Immediately place the ProtexsmileŽ into your mouth (FIG. C). It will be hot but should not burn. Close your teeth firmly but gently, and press your tongue forward towards the upper teeth. In this position, suck away the air and water for a few seconds to improve the adherence around the teeth. At the same time, massage your lips and cheeks with your fingers, pressing them firmly.
- After about one minute, remove ProtexsmileŽ and hold it in cold water for at least 3 minutes (FIG. D). Finally, remove the mouthguard from the water, remove the VDC SystemŽ device from the ProtexsmileŽ. It is now ready for use.
